Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

All submissions must be in Microsoft Word format, Times New Roman 12-pt font, double space with one-inch margins, and conform to the most recent edition (6th) of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.

JAEPR accepts three types of manuscripts that are consistent with the purpose of the Journal:

Research Articles:

All research papers should conform to the format for the research articles as set forth by the American Psychological Association. Abstracts should be limited to 150 words.

Methods Forum Articles:
Manuscripts sections should include the following:

  • Abstract (not to exceed 150 words)
  • Introduction, which documents the importance of the topic and the purpose of the article
  • Discussion of the research/evaluation method and/or scholarly discussion of a relevant policy issue
  • Synopsis of a research study for research/evaluation discussion of a relevant policy issue.
  • Implications for the research and the scholarly communities
  • References


Research Forum manuscripts should be approximately 5-10 double spaced pages not including the title page, abstract, and references. Typically, Research Forum articles do not contain figures or tables, but, if they must be included, they should be submitted in APA style.

Policy Forum Articles:
Manuscripts sections should include the following:

  • Abstract (not to exceed 150 words)
  • Introduction, which documents the importance of the topic and the purpose of the articleScholarly discussion of relevant policy issue
  • Analysis and commentary on the issue with policy implications and recommendations
  • References


Policy Forum manuscripts should be approximately 5-10 double-spaced pages not including the title page, abstract, and references. Typically, Policy Forum articles do not contain figures or tables, but, if they must be included, they should be submitted in APA style.

Please submit a blinded manuscript, without any details about the authors. Also submit a title page that includes all authors' names, affiliations, and contact information for the lead author as a suplementary file.
